Monthly Favourites

So I wrote this whole post out a while ago on my commute to work and it didnt save... please tell me why because I just don't know. So apologies for the lateness of the monthly faves but here it is nonetheless...

As I'm getting older I feel I need to take better care of my skin, especially around my eyes. My skin hasnt dramatically changed but I feel it will change soon as I'm nearing my mid twenties so I opted for an eye cream as more of a 'preventative' step in my routine. eye cream is something I've always fallen in and out of love with and typically forgot to use until I found this little pot of dreams. The Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. I've been using this for a few months now and absolutely love it, its a rich creamy texture which I feel is best dabbed onto the eye area. a little goes a long way with this so you only need a small amount. I use this both morning and night, which leaves the skin around my eyes feeling plumped and hydrated and ready for a full face of make up. This small pot has lasted me months and I still have some left so I think its great value for money, especially as there is a bigger tub of this available too.

I never saw the point in spending a lot on lip balms but the past year I just haven't been able to find a high street balm to meet my needs, I think its a mixture of the change in weather and the fact i work in a very air conditioned building which makes the moisture in my lips go crazy. I decided to give the cult product a try, that being the Nuxe Reve De Miel balm and I'm so glad I did! I use this at night time and before applying my make up to help prep my lips for any lip products I'll be using. I cant get over how amazing this is and that its taken me so long to pick it up! it so nourishing my lips feel instantly hydrated and prepped for the day, its really helped to relived dry lips with the change in seasons. its a very thick formula and smells divine, it almost smells lemony like lemon curd I think which I'm quite a fan of. With this at my side im not so afraid of tackling to cold winter months!

Next up is my Beauty Blender, believe it or not this used to be a red carpet red... but all the colour has ran out of it with the washing process which is very disappointing. But that put aside I have been loving using this to apply my base make up, it just gives the most flawless, problem free application. I don't know what it is about this particular sponge but it just works wonders in giving a gorgeous finish to the skin. if you haven't yet tried the original beauty blender I recommend you give it a try.

Finally is my September issue of Vogue. I'm not a huge magazine buyer, I tend to keep hold of them forever and they just take up space but I really wanted this issue as Victoria Beckham was on the cover with a letter written to her younger self which I loved reading. With the release of her collaboration with Estee Lauder released shes been all over the place and as weird as it sounds I've loved actually hearing her speak and give her opinion. I can officially say shes not only my favourite spice girl but I'm also a big fan of her, just her.

Sorry again for the late posting of this but what can you do! x

Autumn Beauty Wishlist

Autumn is most definitely upon us and I couldn't be happier, its my favourite time of year with colder weather which means nicer clothes and being able to cover up more and Halloween and Christmas! I'm such a big kid when it comes comes to this time of year I just love it!

with the new season upon us I've wanted to change up some of my beauty bits which means I'll want need to buy some more pieces, I've put together this little list of things that I'm really wanting to purchase over the next couple of months so I'm beauty ready for the season! First up is the Becca  - Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop... I know, I know how the hell do I not own this already?! I was put off by the price at first and then we couldn't get it in the UK... Well now we can which is fab, my friend uses this and her highlight is always looking fleeky so Its definitely on my list to help give me a gorgeous glow for this time of year. To go along side this is the Dior Skin Star Foundation, I had a tester of this a while ago and fell in love instantly it gave me medium/build-able coverage with a satin finish that lasted all day, paired with this highlighter I reckon it would be a killer combo!

I have quite a few autumn lip shades so I'm thinking go of picking up something a little lighter but still plumby that's where the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Selma Secret comes in, its a stunning berry toned purple/pink which would look amazing for daytime wear. I've swatched it in store and it really is stunning and I think it suits my skin tone well, There's a few others from the range I have my eye on and no one can buy just one new lipstick a season am I right? I feel like this is the season to give bold brows a go, I've always wanted to try the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade, It's allegedly the best one out there so I think why not... I've seen so many people using this online and their brows look incredible, I think I could probably get away with it and not be too heavy handed.

I've used up a lot of my foundations all at once which is quite honestly heartbreaking! because we all know how much replacing just one is... But I do want to give something new a try and that's where the Dior Skin Star Studio Foundation. I had a tester of this a couple of months back and fell in love with it, its such a gorgeous medium coverage foundation that gives a satin finish to the skin and just looks flippin fabulous throughout the day and still giving just a little glow!

So many people own this product and I cant believe I actually don't, considering it's very much targeted at my skin type the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel, I'm in need of a new cleanser and I feel this may be the one, I've had my eye on it for a long time and think now is a good time to give it a go with the change it weather my skin is definitely in need of a boost. When it does come to skin care I do tend to stick to what I know, by that I mean I usually repurchase products because I know my skin wont react badly, I do think its time to maybe give a new toner try. I've read so much about the Pixi Glow Tonic it seems like its such a cult favourite, its meant to be super good for giving glowing skin which is something my skin is definitely in need of! I think using a gentle exfoliater is so important to keep the skin looking good so I'm going to have to pick this up soon and give it a whirl.

Last but not least is the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I was given a few testers of this a little while ago and they lasted me ages which is amazing because it was enough to make me want it! It felt gorgeous pushed into the skin before bed and my skin felt amazing in the morning! I feel like this is exactly what my skin needs for the winter days and nights, my skin gets much drier with the colder weather so this is a must for me. I've always been a little scared of using oils as my skin has reacted badly to them but it didn't with this one and I know oils are so good for the skin so I can't wait to put my pennies together and treat myself. So they're my top picks for the coming season... I hope it gives you some ideas of products if your unsure on what to change up, what are your picks for the months ahead? x

Current Base

There is nothing I love more than a dewey base, As a girl with dryer skin its definitely a look I go for when picking and using products.

To start off the base I use a small amount of my Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, I love this stuff its so rich and nourishing all throughout the day, so many moisturisers have the moisture punch instantly but later on in the day my skin feels quite tight again but not with this, it leaves such a lovely base for your foundation and feels comfortable all day. Next up I take a small amount of the Mac Strobe Cream and tap it into the high points of my face, basically where you'd want to have that glow and you really don't need a lot of this as a little goes a long way, this is the kind of product you instantly see a difference with leaving a gorgeous iridescent glow.

The Charlotte Tilburys Light Wonder Foundation is a base that gives you a serious glow, like when I say glow I mean glow! I usually blend this in with my Beauty Blender as it gives sheerer coverage which I have much prefered in the summer months, when its blended in with a brush its a little heavier which is still gorgeous. For Powder I love Charlotte Tilburys Flawless Finish powder I've been using this for a while and have actually hit pan on it now, I use Fair 1, its a light, finely milled powder which set your make up in place without looking cakey it just takes the 'shine' off and leaves your make up looking flawless, while also allows your natural glow to come through throughout the day which I quite like, Of course it works well over her other base make up, It's something I'll be repurchasing when the times comes. Last but not least come an offering from Mac which everyone and their cat owns and is Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle, I got this a few months ago and have been using it a lot with the odd change up now and then. I have to say I absolutely love it! its such a gorgeous champagne coloured highlighter, it catches the light perfectly and I often get asked what highlighter I'm using and its usually this one, which must be a good sign. What I like about this is that it can be built up for a full on glow or used lightly for a more subtle sheen to the skin so its pretty versatile which is always good in a product your investing in for your collection.

Well this was quite brand heavy but when you know you've got a good base you got to stick to it and I have to say I love this one, its the perfect dewy/glowy finish, perfect for the previous hotter months and the fresh faced deep lip days to come for autumn! x

Favourites

The only thing going by quicker than these months is my bank balance... I mean am I right?
I have neglected my blog the last few months for various reasons which I will explain in another post. These favourites are more of an accumulation of favourite products from the last few months where I've been absent but still favourite worthy products, it may be quite lengthy so maybe grab a drink and have a little read.

First up is the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation, I bought this thinking it was a lighter coverage base which would have been ideal for the summer weather, but that's not necessarily what the name suggests. From what I've gathered it's more for the Deweyness of the product. This does pack some serious glow in a tube and is a light/medium coverage foundation, when applied with a brush it's much heavier however when applied with a beauty blender you can get a much lower coverage, it's given me such a healthy looking complexion without looking oily.

I was bought me some of the Kyle Lipkits for my birthday a couple of months ago and I have been thoroughly enjoying the shade in Koko K for summer, it's a lovely muted pink shade which looks gorgeous on, I do find I need to apply balm before and part way through the day but that's not too much of a problem for me.

I'd been using the Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Brow Pencil for over a year now (crazy right) but I loved it so much I didn't feel the need to change it, until it started running out so I've left it in my reserve make up bag at my boyfriends to use there, I wasn't sure what to buy in place of it so opted to try the NYX Micro Brow Pencil brow pencil in Ash Brown and I can honestly say I'm in love with it. It's a perfect match for my brow hairs and is the perfect consistency of not being too hard or too waxy, you can really design the shape of your brows and pop in brow hairs to make a more natural brow, it's super quick to use and is a form favourite of mine for brows, this will be repurchased when I can hunt down my shade again *sighs*

The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream was a purchase I took a lot of consideration over due to the high price point. However I was after a super hydrating cream as my skin just seems to getting more dehydrated with the warmer weather and this had such great reviews I just took the plunge and hoped for the best. And the best happened, it's so hydrating and thirst quenching I can't quite believe it, my skin feels so nourished and doesn't feel tight throughout the day even with a heavier coverage base, I do really like this cream especially if you have dry skin. I do feel it has a slightly processed smell to it..? If you've used it you'll know what I mean but you can read my full review here.

My mac lipstick collection seems to consist of mostly of bold colours, I have a few nude shades but I thought I could do with another so I treated myself to Mac Modesty. Its the most perfect pinky/nude shade which looks gorgeous on, its perfect for daytime use which is what I use it mostly for but it would work so well for night time if you have a slightly heavier eye make up going on and wanted nude lips. It's so lovely its definitely my go to for work. I've also fallen in love with my Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle. I picked this up a few months ago and absolutely love it. It gives such a fabulous champagne glow to the skin, this can be quite full on but in my opinion if your going for that summer glow which I certainly have been you just cant go wrong!

For the last few months I have been loving using body oil on my skin, I have of course chosen the Palmers Moisturizing Body Oil as Palmers is my absolute favourite brand for adding moisture to my body and hair, this oil sinks in so well to the skin and leaves the most amazing glow to the skin, which I've been loving especially for my legs on the occasions I've had them out this summer. If your looking for an affordable body oil I'd definitely give this a go, and a little goes a long way so its super good value for money.

As for my non beauty favourites this month I actually have some this time around! Despite certain things in life not being great I had an amazing couple of weeks with my friends, first up we went  to Boardmasters festival in Cornwall, it was so good, such a good mix of music which is perfect for my group of friends as we all like different types of music. There is of course the surf festival which was awesome to see. I had the best time letting my hair down and spending quality time with the best friends a girl can have! The following weekend me and my friend Jasmine went to V Festival for the day. We  went to the Justin Bieber day which was awesome! It was super weird going for the day but it was so good and we saw some awesome acts!
Last but not least the latest book in the Harry Potter Series, The Cursed Child is of course in my favourites. I had this on pre-order for months and on the day it was released I went down and collected my copy! I was so excited and read it so quickly! To get another glimpse into Harry's life after falling in love with the story so long ago was so existing! I felt like a child again ha! its such a good read and its so nice to be able to read more from the Harry Potter story and see how Harry has grown up attempting to manage his own children! Its made me super excited to go and see The Cursed Child in theatre later this year! If your super crazy and haven't read it yet, go and pick up a copy!

That was super long... If you made it to the end I hold my hand up to you! x

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream | Review

My skin seems to be going through a stage of constant tightness. I've tried so many things but nothing seemed to have helped. I do think that with the weather changing so much it may have had something to do with that and I tend to use medium/full coverage bases which probably don't help... But you'd think that a really rich cream would solve the problem, well they hadn't so I decided to take the plunge and splurge a little on the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, coming in at a whopping £70! I mean really?! it's a lot of money but I had been watching many videos and reading lots of reviews which say this stuff is simply the best and I've been fed up of this horrid tight feeling which is my skin so I gave it a go, so here are my thoughts

To start off with it is incredibly thick, thick to the point that when you blob it on your face it comes out white. You know how creams which are usually white are usually almost transparent on the skin? well this isn't, obviously when you blend it in its not noticeable but I just thought I'd point that out so you can get a feel of the thickness were talking about. You don't need too much of this as a little goes quite a long way, the cream goes on really smoothly, you can really feel when it's covered your whole face because it just feels that nourished. It leaves a really nice glowey base which acts as the perfect glowing base for your make-up. Charlotte Tilbury often says it gives you that 'lit from within' look which I definitely agree with it gives my skin a definite glow which can be seen from beneath make up and I can safely say that my skin doesn't feel tight or dry at all throughout the day, which is what I've been looking for.

I do however have a couple of gripes with it so I should probably just them done with... As I mentioned before this cream is really thick and I have to say it does feel it on the skin, if your looking for a cream that packs a punch with hydration but you want it to feel light on the skin then this really isn't the one for you, although it hydrates the skin I cant help but feel by the time I've finished my make up that I've got a lot of layers on my skin when I actually don't. I mean its not the end of the world and I don't really notice it later on in the day but initially for me I'm not so keen. The other thing with this is the smell... Now I'm not sure on what the majority of the ingredients do but the mixture of them do give off this smell its kind of a floral/chemically smell which personally I don't particularly like but you can get passed it and it doesn't really stay on the skin all day so your not randomly smelling it throughout the day.

So overall I do love this cream, despite the smell and the feeling of heaviness I think it has its a fantastic cream, which hydrates and gives a fabulous glow to my dehydrated skin. I cant imagine it's a super summery cream as I think the skin feeling light is much more ideal for the hotter weather however I'm yet to find something to beat this cream, if you don't mind the scent of products and are looking for something to completely transform your skin and have the pennies to spend on it then go for it, it is a fantastic moisturiser. x

Boots Purchases

The last couple of days I have been off work sick with some nasty throat thing, so I'm currently tucked up in bed feeling sorry for myself, hoping it goes away before my birthday this week (fingers crossed) As I've been off sick I needed to go to the Pharmacy and pick up some much needed medicine to help me get better, whilst I was there I had a quick browse down the aisles and thought I would show you a couple of things I picked up, I didn't get much as a lot of the make up pieces I wanted were out of stock in my shades (typical) The weather here in the UK has been amazing the last few days its actually warm enough to leave the house without a jacket which is always a nice surprise as it happens so rarely.

I wanted a body oil I could use to add just a little more moisture to my skin and just give it a bit more of a glow on the days I need to have a little more skin out, I picked up the Palmers Cocoa Butter Moisturising Body Oil currently (£3.59) Palmers is one of my favourite skincare brands I use the normal body butter on a daily basis as it gives so much hydration, so I had no doubt in which oil to pick up and give a go. I'm currently sat with it sinking into my legs as we speak and it feels so nice, its left a good looking sheen to the skin, very J.Lo esc and its sinking in quite quickly which is always good! this one currently has a thumbs up from me.

I also was in need of some new nail varnish as I have taken a break from getting my nails done, it really is an expensive habit to have. First up I picked up the Loreal Nail Laquer in 114 Nude Demoiselle (£4.99) it's a really pretty nude colour with a very slight hint of pink in it, I chose this one as I thought it would look great with a tan. I never pick up shades like this as they never have much pigmentation and you have to layer and layer them up to get an opaque colour in them and I'm sorry to say that its the same with this one, I think I must have put 5 layers of this stuff on my toes and they still look quite streaky, I'm not sure whether I've put it on to thick or what but it just doesn't look great so far, I'll have a play around with it but at the moment my thoughts on this aren't great.

I also picked up one of the new Barry M Coconut Infusion Polishes in Laguna (£4.99) This was the prettiest shade they had of the ones in the range, its a pale muted mint blue shade and will look amazing with a tan this summer. I really love it and I haven't even put it on yet but its the kind of shade I wear all summer. I was pleased to see that they have finally changed their brushes (at least for this range) they are slightly thicker which will make it easier to get an even coating of polish on the nail. I'm looking forward to giving this one a go soon. Maybe I'll change the Loreal one for this one... Choices choices.

Let me know what you've picked up recently to ready yourself for the summer, I'm definitely in need of some new things, especially as a treat for my birthday! x

The Moisturisers

The last few months seem to have played havoc on my skin. Here in the UK the weather cant seem to decide whether its still winter or actually spring. I'm not sure whether its that or the ever changing temperature of the air con at work... maybe its a mixture of the two. Anyway my skin has needed an extra added boost in the form of two nourishing moisturising creams. For night time I always reach for the Origins Overnight Intensive mask (£23), it says to use this once or twice a week but I find it works well as an every day night moisturiser, it's so nourishing on the skin, especially if the products I've used before this have stripped my skin a little too much. It's very thick so a little goes a long way but it sinks in beautifully and leaves my skin feeling plump and ready for a face of make up the next morning.
I recently picked up the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream (£70) I was a little reluctant to do so given the price, but I had a voucher and had heard so many good things about it being so moisturising on dry skin. And I have to admit it really is, it's very thick but applies well to the skin and sinks into any dehydrates areas well. It leaves such a nice base to the skin for make up whether it be a heavy or a light base, I will say though that the smell isn't great... But I'll be writing a review on this soon and I'll touch on that then.

They're the two creams that have saved my skin lately, the two work well together taking over the needs of my skin for daytime and night, so if your in the market for a good duo then I recommend these two, and if you don't want to splash out straight up then I've found both origins and CT are good with giving testers so you can try them out before you buy! x
